Storage Container For Hire Ripley

Organisations in Ripley often require immediate, temporary storage space. Whether for construction site security, retail stock overflow, or home renovations, hiring a container offers a practical solution. We stock new and used storage containers built to International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) specifications. This ensures every unit we deliver meets rigorous structural integrity and security standards.

For short-term needs, hiring a shipping container is often more economical than buying one. We manage the logistics, utilising a nationwide network of depots to keep delivery costs as low as possible.

Delivery and Site Access in Ripley

We typically use Hiab vehicles for delivery, which are trucks equipped with an integral crane. These vehicles require specific access conditions to operate safely.

Space Requirements

You must ensure your site has sufficient space for the vehicle to manoeuvre. A standard rigid truck delivering a 20ft shipping container is approximately 40ft long. For a 40ft shipping container, we use an articulated vehicle that is around 60ft to 65ft long. The vehicle requires a width of 8ft, plus an additional 5ft to 8ft on each side for the stabiliser legs to extend.

Ground Conditions

The delivery vehicle must remain on hard-standing ground at all times. Suitable surfaces include concrete, tarmac, or compacted gravel. We generally cannot drive over grass, soil, or soft mud, as the heavy vehicle is likely to sink and get stuck. If the driver assesses the ground as unsafe, they have the right to refuse the delivery.

Overhead Safety

The crane arm requires significant vertical clearance to lift the container. You must ensure there are no obstructions such as tree branches or cables. Safety regulations regarding overhead power cables are strict; we typically require a clearance of at least 20 metres from live cables.

Site Preparation and Levelling

You are responsible for preparing the site before we arrive. The ground where the container will sit must be level. If a container is placed on uneven ground, it can "rack" (twist), causing the doors to jam and become difficult to operate.

We recommend supporting the four corners of the container using railway sleepers, paving slabs, or concrete pads. This helps level the unit and creates an air gap underneath, protecting the underside from moisture and premature erosion.

Planning Permission

Shipping containers are often considered temporary structures, and planning permission is frequently not required for short-term use. However, rules vary by location, such as in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We recommend checking with your local authority to confirm. In Ripley, you should consult the Amber Valley Borough Council planning portal for specific guidance.

Why Hire Instead of Buy?

Deciding between hiring and buying a shipping container in Ripley depends on your timeline. Hiring is the most economical choice for short-term needs. It requires less upfront capital and allows you to return the unit when you finish your project. If you need storage for several years, purchasing might offer better value over time.

How quickly can you deliver to Ripley?

We generally deliver within 3 to 5 working days of your order. During busy periods or for complex deliveries requiring specific vehicles, this may take slightly longer. If you have a strict deadline, please let us know when you enquire so we can schedule accordingly.

Do I need to be there for the delivery?

Yes, an authorised person must be on site to accept the delivery. You will need to direct the driver to the exact location and have the driver sign to confirm that the container is level and that the doors operate correctly before the driver leaves.

Can you lift the container over a fence?

Hiab cranes can often lift over obstacles like fences or walls. However, reach is limited; as the crane extends farther, its lifting capacity decreases. You must provide us with photos or measurements of the obstacle in advance so we can ensure the vehicle has the necessary reach.

What if the delivery fails?

If the driver cannot deliver due to unsuitable access or ground conditions, the container will be returned to the depot. You will be liable for the failed delivery charge and the return transport costs. It is essential to check your site access against our guidelines before booking.

Can I move the container after delivery?

Once placed, the container cannot be easily moved without a crane. We can arrange to relocate your container, but this will count as a new transport job and incur a charge. Our standard Hiab trucks cannot lift a container that is loaded with goods; they are for empty containers only.

Container Pricing

We aim to offer the best container at the best price, with local depot delivery. We aim to have a transparent approach to the condition of containers and delivery prices.

The prices fluctuate; influenced by the cost of steel, petrol and labour, all fees, including delivery, are subject to change. If your recent quote has expired, please feel free to ask for another one; we're here to help.
